LG AI research is holding the annual autumn conference with the Korean Institute of Artificial Intelligence. From November 4 to 6, experts in artificial intelligence all around the world participate to share the recent path in research, technological progress, and accomplishment of academic research via metaverse platforms, Gather town and Zoom.
It takes place in metaverse platforms, covering various AI topics
This conference focuses on Learning Representation and Gaussian Process. Professor Neil Lawrence of the University of Cambridge, the authority on Gaussian Process, participates as the main speaker in the LG Sponsored Distinguished Talk, whereas CSAI Honglak Lee of LG AI Research and Professor Roger Grosse of the University of Toronto participate as keynote speakers. Additionally, 6 more Korean experts in artificial intelligence give a tutorial on healthcare, deep learning based on differential equation, controlling robotic intelligence, and many more. Representative Kyunghoon Bae of LG AI research, Professor Changkyung Kim of Hanyang University, and Professor Jinwoo Shin of KAIST also give a special lecture on various topics and sessions to share rich information.

Focus on Learning Representation and Gaussian Process
Most notably, LG AI research finally is in a collaborative relationship with the Korean AI academic community after holding the annual autumn conference together; they also plan to modify the ecosystem in the process. On November 4, the first day of the conference, Representative Kyunghoon Bae gives an opening speech on “AI Challenges for a Better World.” Representative Bae explains the path that LG AI research takes and the “Super-giant AI” research that began this year. Then, he announces the AI research results on process innovation, R&D optimization, smart mass production, efficiency of quality innovation, customer service, and many more.
In the LG Sponsored Distinguished Talk, Professor Neil Lawrence of the University of Cambridge gives a speech on “Deep Gaussian Processes: Motivation and Introduction” by observing deep learning from the perspective of the Gaussian Process and presenting the importance of the Deep Gaussian Process with some examples.
On November 5, the second day of the conference, LG AI research CSAI Honglak Lee and Professor Roger Grosse of the University of Toronto each give a keynote speech on “Learning Representations and Models of the World for Solving Complex Tasks” and “Self-tuning network: Amortizing the Hypergradient Computation for Hyperparameter Optimization.”

Honglak Lee CSAI introduces a way of acquiring models to develop general-purpose artificial intelligence agents that can perform various tasks with outstanding generalization performance. He also demonstrates how representation learning in a controlled environment can improve performance despite the scarce reward, how to acquire latent expression that enhances the sample’s efficiency and generalization performance in various controlled experiments, and how to execute a complex task by understanding the hierarchy of its subtasks. Another keynote speaker, Professor Roger Grosse, introduces a way of utilizing a self-tuning network (STN) to optimize hyperparameter for the purpose of applying it online in network learning.
Introducing AI research and its utilization by the corporate
Furthermore, Ilpyeong Park, CTO of LG Electronics and representative of LG Science Park, gives a speech on Korea’s artificial intelligence research and the progress of its academic community. More importantly, he introduces products/services from LG Electronics, LG Innotek, U+, LG CNS, and many other affiliates of LG and which utilize AI technology such as reinforcement learning and vision inspection.
The Korean Institute of Artificial Intelligence annual autumn conference is the third conference since the Korean Institute of Artificial Intelligence was launched in 2016. It is an event where researchers of artificial intelligence all over the world gather to share their accomplishments and technological path. KOMIPO(Korea Midland Power), Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and KAIST VTT-AI Center/KAIST Artificial Intelligence Equity Research Center are participating as sponsors.
