LG AI Research Participates in CTS 2022, a Global Meeting of AI Experts

On September 24, LG AI Research participated in the 7th Changbal Tech Summit (CTS 2022) hosted by Changbal, a group of Korean IT professionals in northwestern USA. At CTS 2022, experts in a wide range of fields working at various IT companies such as Google, NVIDIA, and Meta gathered to present sessions under the theme of “New Normal.” In addition, there was an opportunity for active communication and exchange between graduate students and professional researchers through the network session.

The chief of LG AI Research, Kyunghoon Bae participated in this event with the expectation of strengthening the capacities of researchers and securing excellent talents. He made an introduction to LG AI Research and networked with outstanding students. Bae used actual research examples of LG AI Research to explain how AI technologies are transforming our lives in an innovative way, and unveiled a future that can be created with LG’s super-giant AI model, EXAONE. He also made a presentation on not only solving difficult problems of LG affiliates using AI technologies, but also about the AI artist Tilda that debuted at the New York Fashion Week in February. Before ending his presentation, Bae stated, “We have embarked on AI technology research in the creative field through an MOU with Parsons recently,” and added, “Please look forward to LG AI Research’s works in Seattle as well.”

Fundamental Research Lab Leader Moontae Lee of LG AI Research gave the main speech under the theme, “Large-Models Are Coming: Deep Dive into the New AI Paradigm.” Fundamental Research Lab is actively researching the latest technologies that go beyond the limitations of deep learning. At this point in time where the progress of language models is leading a revolution throughout AI/ML research, Lab leader Lee Moon-tae examined the basic mathematical, probability, and algorithm principles that make up the language model, while arranging the technological points and insights that brought about innovations up to massive language models. He explained the versatile and synaesthetic features of large-scale language models and explained why LG is focusing on large-scale AI research. Lastly, he mentioned cases of revising biases using in-context learning abilities of large-scale models for issues such as factuality and fairness that must be taken into consideration to develop responsible AI, and presented a bright vision that a further developed model can have.

 

LG AI Research Booth at CTS 2022

 

At the CTS 2022 booth, the Talent Relations Team in charge of securing human resources for LG AI Research held positive consulting sessions with IT professionals. Visitors to the booth were not only interested in working at Sciencepark in Korea, but also at the LG AI Research Center, Ann Arbor that opened in March of this year. Furthermore, there were one-on-one consultations about various fields including LG AI Research’s super-giant multi-modal AI technologies, working environment and organizational culture. Prior to participating in CTS 2022, the Talent Relations Team visited Purdue University, UIUC, and the University of Michigan to talk about employment opportunities with graduate school students. It was an opportunity to reconfirm the huge level of interest from graduate students in LG AI Research in not only Korea, but also in the U.S. LG AI Research will continue to actively interact with overseas talents through similar events for IT professionals and campus recruiting programs to solidify its position as a company that leads global AI technologies.
