The 2023 Korea Government Expo took place at the BEXCO Exhibition Center in Busan from November 23 to 25. This event is open for the public to learn about government innovations achieved by the “digital platform government” and experience Korea’s new and upcoming future. At the expo, LG AI Research gave demonstrations covering the EXAONE platforms and seminars, showcasing how our AI technology is spurring innovation across industries and in the public sector. Here is a behind-the-scenes look at the expo.
Korea’s Bright Tomorrow, Led by the Digital Platform Government: 2023 Korea Government Expo

The expo was co-hosted by the Ministry of Interior and Safety and the Presidential Committee on the Digital Platform Government with a theme of “Government Innovation with the Digital Platform Government.” Ninety-nine organizations took part in the event, including central interior organizations, local governments, public institutions, and private companies. Exhibition booths were focused on three different themes: “Convenient Service,” “Smart Government,” and “Safe Society.” The expo offered a wide range of interactive content so that attendees could directly experience and learn about government innovations and the achievements of the digital platform government.

In the Demo Zone of our research booth, LG AI Research demonstrated three EXAONE platforms, offering attendees a hands-on experience with our AI technology, as well as business consulting for public institutions and businesses. In addition to the Demo Zone, a Seminar Zone was set up to share our collaborative projects with public institutions and partner companies, along with trends in AI technology and strategies to adapt to them.
Demo Zone: For Experiencing EXAONE Technology and Communication
We continuously demonstrated three EXOANE platforms in the Demo Zone: EXAONE Universe, EXAONE Discovery, and EXAONE Atelier. Representatives for each LG AI Research lab were also there to offer in-person communication with all attendees.

Image 3. Demonstration of EXAONE Universe
EXAONE Universe is a platform that provides informative answers to questions via a super-giant language model and assists businesses in skilled work and developing cutting-edge technology. During the expo, LG CNS showcased an AI official document service using EXAONE Universe, a collaborative project with the Ministry of Interior and Safety, which caught the eye of many attendees.

Image 4. Demonstration of EXAONE Atelier
EXAONE Atelier, the winner of the Minister’s Award at the 2023 Korea Digital Innovation Festa, garnered a lot of attention as well. As a multimodal model, EXAONE Atelier studies the data of 350 million image-text pairs to understand languages and images simultaneously, which offers fresh and original ideas to creators. The model carried out various tasks in real-time during demonstrations, including writing image descriptions, ad copies, and social media posts.

Image 5. Demonstration of EXAONE Discovery
Once EXAONE Discovery, a platform for exploring undiscovered scientific facts, receives a sentence from the user, it then reviews different types of data and proposes the best method to develop new material. As a result, risks of research failure are minimized and time and cost are significantly saved. The platform is expected to be highly useful for not only scientists but R&D-oriented businesses as well.
Seminar Zone: Sharing Innovation from EXAONE

In the Seminar Zone, we shared our collaborative projects with public institutions and partner companies, as well as trends in AI technology and strategies to adapt to them. Each time slot was filled with a 20 to 30-minute presentation by a project representative, showcasing ways to utilize AI from a business perspective.

Young Choi hosted the first seminar from the AI Biz team under the topic “Future Cast (AI ETF) - AI as an Investor.” The release of ChatGPT has shown people the potential of AI, with many wanting to know if the technology can help them make more money from investments or stocks. To find the answer, Choi shared his knowledge on how AI technology is and will be used in financial markets. He also introduced AI ETF, a financial product co-developed by LG AI Research and our financial partners.
This year’s expo went a step above and included a seminar by LG CNS. Focusing on “Cases of Applying Generative AI and Introduction to LG CNS’s DAP Generative AI Platform,” Eunyoung Lim, Chair of the LG CNS Generative AI Council, discussed examples of generative AI bringing innovations to different workplaces. The seminar provided insights into the new technology, exploring how it can be used for searching, writing report drafts, chatbots, and consulting, and further touched on development strategies and areas for improvement.

Seongyong Kwon from the AI Project Dev. team delivered a seminar on “LG AI Research’s AI Contact Center Establishment Project with the Super-Giant AI EXAONE,” in which he introduced contact centers operated by affiliates and partners of LG AI Research and an AICC solution built using our super-giant AI. His seminar included in-depth explanations of solutions, such as our contribution to automating companies’ customer service and improving business performance, including customer service quality and customer satisfaction.
Jeongwon Jo from the AI Biz. team held a seminar on the “LG AI Research’s Large Language Model Specialized in the Patent Field,” a collaborative project with the Korean Intellectual Property Office. Recent advances in convergence and fusion technology have resulted in increased difficulty and number of patents, leading to a need for a quick, accurate environment for patent examination. To accomplish this goal, LG AI Research, together with the Korean Intellectual Property Office and the Korea Institute of Patent Information, introduced a patent-specialized feature in our large language model by making it study patent data. The seminar explored the results of this collaboration based on the organizations’ combined expertise, as well as plans for utilizing the technology in the future.

The development of digital technology is leading to a more convenient life and a safer society. Digital platforms connect all types of data, leading to the creation of new value for citizens, businesses, and the government. Likewise, LG AI Research will continue striving to build an expert AI for all to improve the quality of our everyday lives.
