LG AI Research continues to showcase its leadership in AI technology by presenting 19 papers at NeurIPS (Neural Information Processing Systems) 2023, the world’s largest machine learning conference. NeurIPS was held at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA from the 10th to the 16th local time.
Introduce to Advanced AI Technology with Increased Prediction and Execution
LG AI Research published a number of papers containing research results on advanced technologies in the generative AI field at this year’s NeurIPS.
For example, LG AI Research introduced the fundamental research achievements necessary to create “AI Agent,” a secretary-like AI more advanced than existing conversational generative AI that can accurately recognize human commands and autonomously perform decision-making.
LG AI Research published a paper on the complementary interactions of LLM Actor, a large language model (LLM) that self-asks and executes human commands, and LLM Critic, an LLM that predicts and prioritizes outcomes for execution, enabling AI to make decisions that can benefit humankind.
According to LG, this technology could enable appliances that help with household activities, such as online shopping or robot vacuum cleaners, to more accurately understand and carry out human commands in a simulated environment.
In addition, LG AI Research published papers on its prior technology research regarding AI agents, including ▲ Task-Oriented Dialogue (TOD) technology that enables AI to perform specific human commands and ▲ technology that automatically optimizes prompts, which are commands or questions that are entered into generative AI.

At Expo Day on the 10th, the opening day of the conference, Moontae Lee, Advanced ML Lab leader, presented and demonstrated EXAONE Universe, a generative AI service for AI researchers.
Moontae Lee explained that “to overcome the hallucination problem of generative AI, EXAONE Universe is a platform designed to allow AI to synthesize evidence found in professional literature and reason in a logical manner so that it can provide useful information and insights to experts by checking the basis for the answers given by AI,” and added, “By using EXAONE Universe for AI professionals as the basic model, we’re preparing to expand our services to include the bio, chemical, medical, pharmaceutical, patent, finance, and legal fields.”
LG affiliates jointly participate to secure global AI talent

LG AI Research worked with LG’s major affiliates, including LG Electronics, LG Energy Solutions, LG Household & Health Care, and LG CNS, to secure global AI talent during the conference that continues until the 16th.
AI researchers and recruiters from LG’s affiliates were demonstrating the latest AI technologies, including ▲ vision inspection technology essential for smart factory implementation (LG Energy Solutions) and ▲ sun protection factor (SPF) prediction technology that can be used to develop UV products (LG Household & Health Care). They were also offering career counseling at LG’s integrated booth. On the 10th, LG held “LG AI Day,” a networking event to share LG’s AI technology development status and talent development plans with AI researchers attending the conference.
LG AI Research hired 10 AI researchers last year through recruitment activities at global AI conferences including NeurIPS, CVPR, and Interspeech, of which six were hired from NeurIPS alone.

LG AI Research presented 78 papers at global AI conferences and applied for 30 patents
This year alone, LG AI Research has published 78 papers at global AI conferences and applied for 30 patents, heavily increasing its aptitude for research.
In the three years since its launch, LG AI Research has published 151 papers at global top conferences in each field of AI, including NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, and ACL.
LG AI Research has applied for 48 patents since last year, including 34 domestic and 14 international (PCT) patents, for AI technologies that can be applied to the real world, such as ▲ vision inspection to detect defective products, ▲ synthesis of new materials and prediction of their properties, ▲ bi-directional text-to-image generation (large scale multimodal AI), ▲ next-generation battery development, and ▲ medical image analysis.
LG AI Research plans to continue its research and patent activities to develop AI for a better life in the future.
