[LG TECH CONFERENCE 2024] Join LG in Shaping the Future of R&D
LG has stepped forward to connect with the R&D talent of the future. The LG TECH CONFERENCE 2024 has been held since 2012. This year's conference, with themes of “Find Yourself, Find Your Future” was held at the LG Sciencepark in Magok on April 4. It attracted more than 300 R&D talents from Korean master’s and doctoral programs in science and engineering. Discover everything from Tech and Poster Sessions to share insights on technology to the “Ask Me Anything” program, Networking Sessions to strengthen relationships, and even a space to experience LG’s technology hands-on! The Tech Session and Poster Session that were so hot, we ran out of time
As part of the LG TECH CONFERENCE 2024 program, LG AI Research welcomed future talent at the Tech Session to share AI technology insights and trends. Kyunghoon Bae, Chief of LG AI Research, opened the Tech Session and expressed, “Starting from this event, we look forward to creating the future of R&D with you at LG.”
This was followed by lectures from Jinsik Lee, head of the EXAONE Lab, and Woohyung Lim, head of the Data Intelligence (DI) Lab. They shared insights on key research trends in AI and various use cases for AI technology. Both lectures were met with so many questions and such enthusiasm that those were running out of time.

Lab Leader Jinsik Lee reviewed the trends of large-scale language model research from the 1990s to the present and explained how LG AI Research started its AI research with a vision. He didn’t stop with his prepared presentation but also presented key topics that future talent should consider. Along the way, he spoke in-depth about the importance of data copyright in the business world, which is distinctly different from the research environment, and which technology will be the next transformer in AI research.
Lab Leader Woohyung Lim introduced examples of how AI technology is being utilized in business and everyday life and showcased EXAONE-based services applied to various fields. He pointed out that the session was being attended by R&D talent from a variety of fields, not just AI, and emphasized that they should be able to envision the future of how AI technology will be used in their respective fields of research. As the lecture was about the utilization of AI technology, the Q&A session included questions about the vision and flow of AI services.

The technical exchange between LG and AI talent continued in the Poster Session. LG AI Research showcased a variety of research materials at WACV 2024, including a ReConPatch study that achieved MVTecAD dataset leaderboard SOTA performance.

Getting up close and personal with future R&D talent, “Ask Me Anything” and Networking Session
LG AI Research’s Talent Relations team, which is in charge of recruiting talent, has been working in various ways to find future talent to work together on AI for a better life. Recruiters and senior researchers participated in an “AMA” (Ask Me Anything) session and answered attendees’ questions. Senior researchers provided insights into how research conducted at universities transitions to corporate settings, and recruiters introduced various recruitment-related information, such as the recruitment process, internships and residencies, LG AI Research’s benefits, and the company culture.
The final portion of the LG TECH CONFERENCE 2024 was the Networking Session. This session allowed LG’s senior researchers and aspiring talent to meet in an informal setting and engage in various conversations. Before the networking began, Kyunghoon Bae, Chief of LG AI Research, spoke at the Tech Leader Talk. “I enjoy challenges more than anyone else, and I think I’ve realized my dream as a researcher in the process,” he said as he shared his worries and the difficult challenges he experienced early in his career. He also shared, “The future society you will live in will be a very different world than the present,” and offered advice on what each person should do to create the future envisioned.

Two jam-packed days with LG AI Tech CONNECT Seoul

Why was the LG TECH CONFERENCE 2024 extra special for LG AI Research? It was thanks to the pre-event, LG AI Tech CONNECT Seoul. LG AI Tech CONNECT is LG AI Research’s exclusive recruitment networking event for future talent, first held last year in New York City for global AI talent. This event had high attendee satisfaction because it allowed attendees to interact with fellow researchers rather than being a one-sided introduction to companies. It was also significant because it was expanded to include Korean AI talent.
At LG AI Tech CONNECT Seoul, members of LG AI Research presented key research topics, and attendees also had the opportunity to introduce their own research. In particular, the lab leaders and senior researchers from each lab were present to answer questions and discuss various research areas of LG TECH CONFERENCE 2024 in advance. This year, in particular, the atmosphere was more relaxed and casual. Through active questions and in-depth exchanges, attendees were able to learn more about research conducted by LG AI Research.
