LG AI Research and UNESCO agreed to form an advisory group of international experts and begin developing an AI ethics education curriculum within the year, with the goal of releasing it to the public in late 2025 and announcing interim results at the AI Action Summit early next year.
During the ceremony, representatives from both parties expressed their anticipation and sense of responsibility regarding this collaboration. Ms. Soohyun Kim, Director of UNESCO Regional Office in Bangkok Gabriela Ramos, Assistant Director-General, Social and Human Sciences, UNESCO stated “As we commit to this project, we are not just committing to develop a course; we are cultivating a global community of AI champions dedicated to ethical practices. This community will play a pivotal role in promoting the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies, fostering a culture of ethical innovation that transcends geographical and sectoral boundaries.“
Kyunghoon Bae, Chief of LG AI Research, stated, “To ensure AI safety, it is necessary to enhance the awareness of AI ethics among experts researching AI and formulating related policies. Our collaboration and the AI ethics global MOOC project will contribute to strengthening the AI ethics capabilities of AI experts and policymakers worldwide.”

LG AI Research and UNESCO will focus not only on the development of AI ethics education program but also on the dissemination of this content. As part of the effort, LG AI Research and UNESCO have collaborated to make the content of the educational program available free of charge through the Global AI Ethics and Governance Observatory, operated by UNESCO. Both parties also plan to invite stakeholders from governments, businesses, academia, and civil society to submit cases of AI ethics practices, selecting the best ones to create an educational program that can be used in industry and policy.
The collaboration between the LG AI Research and UNESCO has been ongoing and consistent. In November last year, LG AI Research became the first Korean company to sign an agreement with UNESCO to implement and spread AI ethics. As the only Korean company to participate in the UNESCO Global Forum on AI Ethics held in Slovenia in February this year, LG AI Research has been working with UNESCO to establish international cooperation and norms in the field of AI ethics. Starting with this project, LG AI Research and UNESCO will also engage in activities to raise awareness of AI ethics recommendations, such as co-hosting international events and forums and discussing the development of initiatives.
