On November 21st, LG AI Research held the LG AI Insight 2024 conference. The event recapped LG AI Research’s accomplishments over the past year and looked ahead to key AI trends for the future. The conference, which was open to employees of LG affiliates, received over 1,000 applications in just three days of pre-registration. Attendees were employed in various roles at LG Electronics, LG Energy Solution, LG Display, and other affiliates. Here’s a look at the vibe at LG AI Insight 2024, what LG AI Research has accomplished in the past year, and where we are headed next.
AI Tech Seminar: Trending AI Keywords from the Experts Themselves
Experts in the field shared their insights at the AI Tech Seminar held in the main hall. The scene was filled with discussions about ① AI agents, ② large language models, ③ multimodal AI, ④ AI in the bio and medical industries, and ⑤ computing infrastructure. Professor Yongjae Lee from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Professor Kyoungmu Lee from Seoul National University, Mary Dickinson, CSO of The Jackson Laboratory, and Kuhyung Chung, a team leader at NVIDIA, were among the global AI experts who attended and provided insights. Kyunghoon Bae, Chief of LG AI Research, and Honglak Lee, Chief Scientist of AI (CSAI), also joined to share updates on the current research progress in various areas, including AI Agents, at LG AI Research.

AI Poster Session: From Cutting-Edge Research to Real-World Industry Application
A total of 66 posters were displayed inside and around the conference's main hall. Attendees were able to browse and discuss the posters, which showcased the results of cutting-edge research, LLMs, and AI research applied to real-world industries.

Special Programs: LG AI Insight 2024 On-Site Highlights
The conference featured a number of special programs, one of which was the Open Insight Office, where attendees could ask and answer questions related to strengthening their AI capabilities. Both individual and group consultations were held with representatives from LG AI Research. Consultations covered questions related to strengthening individuals’ AI capabilities, such as which areas of technology need continuing research and what kind of AI technology would be most suitable for an individual's work.
Mentors included Moontae Lee, who leads the AML Lab at LG AI Research, and Soonyoung Lee, who leads the Multimodal Lab. Moontae Lee answered questions about machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing, while Soonyoung Lee spoke candidly about the vision and multimodal fields.
In particular, Sunwoong Jung, senior researcher at LG Energy Solution, said, “It was meaningful to get to know about topics that are difficult to grasp in the field,” adding, “I discussed how business collaboration is conducted through specific processes at LG AI Research and received accurate information.” Changlak Choi, another senior researcher at LG Energy Solution who attended, shared, “I inquired about the LG AI Graduate School program conducted by LG AI Research and plan to participate in such a program to enhance my individual AI capabilities.”

In addition to the Open Insight Office program, the conference also featured a demo zone. Attendees were able to experience LG AI Research’s various services and models in action. Demos included ChatEXAONE, the recently unveiled AI agent for enterprise users, and EXAONE, which has achieved global standards in both English and Korean. Attendees were also able to see the AI Coding Assistant service, which is particularly useful for software developers.

LG AI Research will continue our research on the application of AI technologies, including EXAONE and ChatEXAONE, in the industrial field. We will also host further opportunities to share achievements and insights that will help foster growth together.
