In an era where AI trends change breathlessly and new technologies and models pour out every day, LG AI Research maintains an unwavering core philosophy: "Technology is ultimately completed through solving real-world problems and creating practical change in the field.
"From practical hands-on training for internal employees to hackathons cultivating Korea's young talents, and official degree programs conducting in-depth research, Academy Team continues to build a solid bridge connecting technology with the field. Here is a sincere look at the planning background and ambitions of the Academy Team members, who work tirelessly to build a technology application ecosystem.

Part 1. [Team Story] Where Learning Leads to On-Site Results: Academy Team
"All our questions stem from one core inquiry: 'What will learners be able to solve directly in their own work after completing this training?'"
The target audiences and formats of the programs planned by the Academy Team vary. However, a single core value runs through the entire team: "Learning must lead to concrete changes in daily operations and on-site business.
- For current employees: We aim to equip them with practical capabilities to redefine and solve operational challenges using AI as a weapon from a fresh perspective.
- For youth: We provide opportunities to prove their problem-solving abilities by handling real industrial data rather than hypothetical assignments.
- For degree-program employees: We offer an optimal environment to create business value through in-depth research. Because AI moves at a breakneck pace, we avoid static education that merely repeats a fixed curriculum.
The Academy Team constantly communicates with researchers at LG AI Research, field experts, and affiliate training leads to instantly incorporate the latest technology trends into our courses. Expert consultation and mentoring, alongside data accumulated from learner feedback, serve as invaluable assets to continuously refine future programs.
Connecting the speed of technological advancement with execution on the ground that is the direction Academy Team moves toward.
Part 2. [Interview] Stories of the Team Driving the Field
① Expert AI Course (Employee Education) Jiwon Kim
"Handing employees actionable solutions they can truly bring back to their work after training"
Q. What is your secret to designing practical training that directly solves real business problems?
(Jiwon Kim) The criterion we invest the most effort into is: "What can participants actually take back to their work after this training?" For mentoring programs, we help participants specify the problems they need to solve even before joining, creating an immersive environment to communicate closely with mentors. Lecture and lab courses are also meticulously designed around real industry cases through close discussions with instructors.

Q. When do you feel the most rewarded?
(Jiwon Kim) When participants bring tough operational problems, find solutions together with their mentors, and ultimately receive recognition for achieving meaningful results within their organizations. Hearing that they continue to develop those projects in their actual departments even after graduation gives me a real sense of the practical change our training creates.
Q. How do you lower learning barriers for non-tech majors or employees from diverse backgrounds?
(Jiwon Kim) To ensure everyone starts from the same baseline, we conduct detailed preliminary surveys on work backgrounds and needs. Pre-online courses help build foundational knowledge, and during main training sessions, dedicated 1:1 lab support staff assist participants so even small bottlenecks are resolved immediately.

② LG Aimers (Youth Education) Haesung Lee
"Youth working with real-world data solve global challenges through the value of collaboration"
Q. LG Aimers operates as a 3-month Learning Journey. What kind of experience do you aim to deliver?
(Haesung Lee) Going beyond simple knowledge delivery, we strategically position various learning transfer mechanisms such as Communities of Practice (CoPs), practical lab modules, and mentoring. It is a journey designed to help young talents grow into "AI-convergent talents" who solve real-world problems on their own rather than stopping at theory.

Q. Are there specific criteria when creating hackathon problems to ensure high field applicability?
(Haesung Lee) From a macro perspective, we design hypothesis-driven tasks that carry genuine value to solve in actual industrial settings. From a micro perspective, we focus on providing "raw, authentic industry data" rather than artificial datasets. Participants build real problem-solving capabilities by experiencing the unrefined nature of real-world data. The hackathon also transitions from online to offline, gradually elevating analysis scope and difficulty to foster deep problem-solving capacity.
Q. What was the most memorable moment while communicating with participants?
(Haesung Lee) A post written by a recent 9th participant left a deep impression. They shared: "I learned that even with outstanding tools like AI Agents, greater achievements are only possible when collaborating with colleagues who hold different expertise." Seeing young participants experience not only AI technology but also the true value of collaboration is the most rewarding part of my job.

③ LG Graduate School of AI (Master's & Ph.D. Program) Yusu Lee
"A unique synergy created where industry domain knowledge meets cutting-edge AI research"
Q. What support environment do you provide for students balancing work and research?
(Yusu Lee) Our key focus is helping students conserve energy so they do not spend it on non-research matters. Beyond dedicated research spaces and GPU infrastructure, we operate step-by-step support systems tailored to official degree programs. Crucially, professional researchers from LG AI Research participate as adjunct faculty, offering near 1:1 close mentoring and research feedback.

Image 7. LG Graduate School of AI Vision & Core Value
Q. Compared to other leading graduate programs home and abroad, what is the biggest differentiator of LG Graduate School of AI?
(Yusu Lee) It is the combination of LG AI Research’s scientific expertise and the industrial domain knowledge carried by our student-employees. They bring challenges faced directly on the frontlines such as LG Electronics, LG Energy Solution, and LG Chem into the lab and connect them with cutting-edge AI technologies like foundation models, vision, and bio. Recently, we have also expanded our research network with prestigious institutions like KAIST, Seoul National University, UNIST, and DGIST to drive active academic exchanges.
Q. How do research outcomes from the graduate school connect to actual technology achievements?
(Yusu Lee) Right from selecting research topics, students deliberate on both academic value and real-world applicability alongside their advising professors. Proposals and thesis reviews are conducted not as mere evaluations, but as constructive consulting processes to refine direction. Outcomes generated this way extend beyond SCI(E) paper publications or global conference submissions to actual technology application within affiliates and patent filings. As we have taken our first steps as an officially accredited degree program this year, I am confident that in a few years, research birthed here will create cases that change the world's technologies.
