LG AI Research Recognized for Advancing AI Compliance and Intellectual Property Protection

At LG AI Research, we believe that advancing AI innovation goes hand in hand with ensuring responsible development and use. Our efforts to address some of the AI industry's most pressing challenges, including data copyright and regulatory compliance, have now been recognized with prestigious awards.

On November 4, LG AI Research received the Chairperson's Award from the National Intellectual Property Commission at the Copyright Technology Awards, held as part of the International Copyright Technology Conference (ICOTEC 2026), hosted by Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The award recognizes the technological achievements of EXAONE Nexus, our proprietary AI compliance agent designed to address complex legal risks associated with large-scale AI training datasets.

EXAONE Nexus automatically identifies and assesses potential risks related to copyright, licensing, and personal information across massive datasets that would be difficult to review manually.

Its performance demonstrates the potential of AI-powered compliance. In dataset-level evaluations, EXAONE Nexus achieved 45 times faster analysis, 26% higher accuracy, and approximately 1/1,000 of the cost compared with legal experts.

Beyond efficiency, we are working toward a globally applicable AI compliance framework. By incorporating major AI regulations, including South Korea's AI Basic Act and the European Union's AI Act, EXAONE Nexus aims to help organizations navigate evolving regulatory requirements across jurisdictions.

To strengthen the legal reliability of the system, LG AI Research collaborated with approximately 40 legal professionals from leading law firms in Korea, the United States, and other markets to validate its assessments.

We have also made the risk assessment results of approximately 20,000 open datasets publicly available to the academic and research communities, contributing to greater transparency and responsible AI research worldwide

Our commitment to responsible innovation extends beyond AI compliance to the protection and management of intellectual property.

LG AI Research has developed an intelligent invention disclosure system to systematically identify and protect research outcomes, including academic publications and inventions.

Since our establishment in 2020, we have filed 1,131 patent applications, including 537 in Korea and 594 internationally.

In recognition of these efforts, Kyungjae Yoo, IP Strategy Leader at LG AI Research, received the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Award at the ICT Patent Management Awards on November 2.

This recognition reflects our continued efforts to strengthen intellectual property management and build a foundation for sustainable AI innovation.

Advancing Responsible AI Through Global Collaboration
Beyond technological development, LG AI Research continues to contribute to global discussions on AI ethics, governance, and responsible innovation.

Since 2020, we have participated in more than 30 international discussions and initiatives on AI ethics and governance, including the UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of AI, the AI Impact Summit, and the AI Action Summit in Paris.

Through these engagements, we have shared perspectives on the role of industry in promoting responsible and sustainable AI development.

In July 2026, we also launched an AI Ethics Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) in collaboration with UNESCO, designed to make education on the ethical development and use of AI more accessible worldwide.

The course has since attracted approximately 50,000 learners globally, reflecting growing interest in responsible AI education.

Building a More Trusted AI Ecosystem
At LG AI Research, we see compliance not simply as a regulatory requirement, but as a core capability that enables trustworthy and sustainable AI innovation.

Building on the achievements of EXAONE Nexus and our intellectual property initiatives, we will continue to advance AI compliance and governance frameworks across LG Group.

Through technology, collaboration, and responsible practices, we aim to help build an AI ecosystem where innovation and trust grow together.
