LG to host 'LG AI Hackathon' to find AI talent

■ An AI hackathon with the theme of 'Manufacturing Process Optimization' to be held online for one month from June 1 to 30

■ Anyone can participate; prize money and an internship opportunity at LG Sciencepark will be given to the winners

LG sets out to find artificial intelligence (AI) technology that optimizes the manufacturing process.

LG Sciencepark will hold the LG AI Hackathon with Dacon, a platform specializing in data and AI competition, with the theme of "Block Toy Manufacturing Process Optimization" for a month from June 1 to 30.

Participants will develop AI-based algorithms designed to increase the efficiency of the manufacturing process, assuming that the demand for block toys surged around Children's Day.

An LG official said, "With this hackathon task, we will be able to secure optimal process efficiency through timely and appropriate production at manufacturing sites."

Hackathon is a compound word of "hacking" and "marathon," a contest in which participants plan problem-solving ideas and present results within a limited time, followed by evaluation and award.

Through this hackathon, LG seeks to find practical and innovative ideas that can be applied immediately to the field as well as select creative talent with the ability and passion to solve problems proactively.

Anyone interested in AI and technology can participate in the LG AI Hackathon as an individual or as a team of up to five people.

The event will be held online to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection. When codes are submitted from July 1 to 3 after the competition is over, the final winners will be announced on July 15 after internal evaluation and judging.

The final winners will receive prize money, an internship opportunity at LG Sciencepark or exemption from submitting documents when applying for the company.

Sam-soo Lee, CEO of LG Sciencepark, said, "We will be able to solve various challenges through the use of artificial intelligence (AI)-based technology and collective intelligence. We will continue to provide opportunities to induce the interest and participation of many people."
