It’s a research using representation learning to enable AI to solve difficult problems using minimal guidance or examples in a new environment and to learn and predict the dependency relationship of each task, and to combine these to solve complex higher level problems. CSAI Honglak Lee also presented a target to advance AI basic research beyond the limits of deep learning and develop state-of-the-art technology in key research areas. He also announced plans to support applied researches to help these technologies solve real-world problems.

Research Directions of LG AI Research by Sector / Lab leaders of Data Intelligence, Language and Vision

Then, the Lab Leaders in each field then announced the research field and vision of each lab. Data Intelligence Lab Leader Woohyung Lim is researching an AI technology that combines business decision with the vision of "maximizing management, manufacturing, and R&D efficiencies by using forecasting and optimization AI," and is working on forecasting, time-series forecasting, anomaly detection, recommendation, and optimization. The latest AI Trends in view of Alphastar and Material Development/Dr. Junhyuk Oh of DeepMind & Professor Yoosung Jung of KAIST

Dr. Junhyuk Oh of DeepMind and Professor Yoosung Jung of KAIST pointed to the latest AI technology trends under the themes of From Learning Complex Behaviors To Learning Algorithms' and 'AI-based Material Development Trends.

Dr. Oh Junhyuk of DeepMind

Dr. Junhyuk Oh introduced the 'Alphastar' project that he has been working on at DeepMind. Introducing how Alphastar has become the top 0.2% professional gamer-level competency through its 'Imitation Learning' through 'Alphastar League,' competition between AI's, and he said that using AI reinforcement learning well can lead to new solutions that people have never thought of. He also showed the infinite possibilities of AI, revealing a recent study in which AI develops its own algorithm itself.

The launching event of LG AI Research was the official opening of LG's AI research, which has been ambitiously prepared under the surface. Although it was a non-contact event, I was able to feel the expectation and confidence of a better future that the best AI professionals in the field and global partners could create through synergy.

LG AI Research plans to continuously recruit talented people in the AI field next year to increase the number of key researchers to about 100, and to foster 1,000 AI experts in the group by 2023 by operating customized education programs considering the business characteristics of each affiliate. We ask for your attention and support for LG AI Research's move to lead LG's growth with AI technology and further contribute to the global AI ecosystem.
